 A few other people seem to like the idea, so...

 I think it would make more sense to split an artist's page into two pages:

 One would be all the releases where the artist is also the album artist.

 The second would list releases which tracks by the artist appear on. These
 are typically various artists releases or releases by other artists. This
 could possibly be combined with the 'appears on' page which lists
 relationships.
