Isn't the distinction already done with works/recordings?

In your example
Work = "11 O'Clock Tick Tock"
Recording A = "11 O'Clock Tick Tock"
Recording B = "11 O'Clock Tick Tock (live)"

With a recordings point of view, it doesn't look superfluous or secondary, because it's been recorded live rather than studio in this case for instance.
