1) What were you expecting? That's the only search box on the main page...

2) Tracks are now called recordings. The wiki page has been updated recently, so see http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Text_Search_Syntax (the wiki versions are linked from the bottom of the /doc/ pages). The /doc/ page will be updated soon.
