Yes, this uses the lucene default, which is OR -- its exactly what  
the web page search would give you.

Correct.

Its clear that the WS collection search isn't going to make you  
happy. You should use the web page search interface and its  
associated help files to determine the right query for your approach.  
Then, send that as the query argument in your search and you should  
be set -- dont bother with the filters anymore.

track:(love AND hate) artist:(cyndi pebbles fishbone)

This shows tracks that contain both 'love' and 'hate' from artists  
that contain 'cyndi', 'pebbles' or 'fishbone' in their name:
