It wouldn't really be practical to convert the guess case stuff to PHP as it 
would then have to run server side.

The reason it is implemented in js is to move that processing to the user 
client and prevent more interaction with the server.

There are some js bits which could better implemented server side, but the 
guess case isn't one of them.
