[mb-devel] Release date without country

The original intent was to be able to capture the date of release withour requiring a country to be entered since effectively we were "loosing" this data. I have several CDs myself which do not have a country of release. Additionally, until their is consensus or a decision made around things like EU, there is no reason not to have at least the date available for tagging; especially since Country isn't used.

What we've implemented isn't quite what I had in mind from an interface perspective but from an implemtation perspective I don't think it matters. Robert's point, as I recall anyway, was that even if the interface was changed to not require a selection in the dropdown, a value still needed to be saved in the record. Honestly I don't think it makes much difference if the user selects the value in the interface or if the code automatically populates a value in the record.

He explained that neither field can be null because applications using MB data will expect some value and that what was needed to resolve this was to determine what value to send. He suggested I post to the devel list so that all of you could give some input on what those values should be. Thanks.

Maybe 'wolfsong' can explain his thoughts for this request. Originally
I thought it might be a good idea but then wonder if it wouldn't
be just another -easy way out- for people dumping bogus release data.
If you open [unknown] then there's [web release], [various] as well.
