It's because Ubuntu's libtunepimp was built without MP4 support. You can
submit a bug report, but I'm not sure if it will be possible to fix as
libtunepimp is in section "main", libmp4v2 is in "multiverse".
PicardQt [1] supports MP4 files out-of-the-box, but the only way to
install it right now if from the sources. I'd like to make a
Debian/Ubuntu package for it, but that won't be sooner that after the
first beta release (~two weeks).
