If you want to credit it that way, you may. (And if somebody has a
problem with that, tough - the guideline says I can do it!) But, that is
not the same thing as specifying that it "must" or "should" be done that
way.
It would be pretty difficult (and probably not worthwhile) to hammer out
some distinction of what releases definitely deserve this, and what ones
don't. But I would say that, as I worded it, anything with multiple
composers and one clear performer might as well get that performer as
ReleaseArtist - it's either that or VA, which is no ReleaseArtist at all.
Might as well file it under something rather than nothing. This is how
big record stores tend to handle VA classical.
