the content is more or less obvious like in the symphonies example, the work
/ box set / volume and performer information in the title already contain
much information resulting in lengthy titles, adding disc titles in all
cases (being an index) would result in lengths worthy a discussion.

Hi,

I'm wondering what the consensus is on the use of disc titles in classical box set compilations (complete symphonies, complete concertos, complete works etc.). In most cases no titles are used if the content does not represent more than the "index" (disc 1: symphonies 1 & 2, disc 2: symphonies 3 & 4 opposed to disc 1: The Early Symphonies, disc 2: The Late Symphonies). What is the definition of "title" is in this context? is the title whats printed on the individual disc as almost all discs have, or is a title used when more descriptive of the content - rather that an index?

From a practical perspective I'd prefer to not add the titles in cases where the content is more or less obvious like in the symphonies example, the work / box set / volume and performer information in the title already contain much information resulting in lengthy titles, adding disc titles in all cases (being an index) would result in lengths worthy a discussion.
