I think the context needs to be taken into account.

If the artist has no band, it makes no sense to use "guest" for session
musicians etc. - they are doing their job, not being guests 8) As Lauri
said, in these cases using "guest" makes sense only if the musician is
credited as such.

On the other hand, "feat." doesn't necessarily mean guest - if the
featuring artist is an integral part of the regular performance, I don't
think he should be marked as "guest", even if he's nor part of the
band's lineup - he's still part of it in that particular track.

So, here's another interpretation - and don't get me started on
"additional"...
