I have also wanted to answer the post that started this thread.  MB is
not against duplication, we have plenty of it, all over.  MB is
against redundancy, and that's a very different thing.  So long as
people want and use both ML and forum, I don't see why there is any
reason to deprive one group of their preferred media.  And I really
_really_ don't see what the big rush is.  A month is not enough time
since the changes to even begin this discussion, MB is a slow moving
behemoth when it comes to cultural change.  Revisiting this in 4 or 6
months, if necessary, makes most sense to me.
