I wasn't referring to the respective merits of vinyl / CD : this is an old
debate which I have seen / participated to too often. My mother used to say
that 78 rpm had a better sound than LPs and that using electricity had
removed something of the musical message. Does this sound familiar ;-) Of
course, she is saying just the same about vinyl / CD now. I think that the
truth is more complex than that, each medium has it's own merits. SACD is
better, but industry was unable to produce SACDs in 1980.
Back to track: I was referring to two releases medium, usually of some
material previously issued on vinyl. I have heard people say (although this
wax not always true) that the second release, marked "digitally remastered",
had a better sound than the first. I don't have such a cd in two versions. I
have a few digitally remastered ones, and a lot of "originally" transfered
ones, but I never bought both. So that I can't say if I can hear a
difference. Or if (which i suspect) "digitally remastered" cds are sometimes
actually digitally remixed.
