[mb-users] Message Board

Nate posts over at mb-style: "I do not find this list to be a very useful
source of information or opinion."

I'd just like to mention that I think a message board format would be much
more "user friendly" - it would be much easier to catch up on threads on
one's own time and survey past opinion. And it would have a lower burden
of entry, thus encouraging more participation (esp. from people who are
not developers :P)

AND, I'd suggest that it would even help alleviate the perceived flame
problem, because people would be able to study others' past opinions and
understand where they are really coming from.

But, since flames are IMO an inevitable aspect of internet culture, it
would also make them easier to "step around" if one did not want to read
them, rather than broadcasting them directly into one's inbox which is
(rightly) perceived as intrusive.

I know this is an age-old topic, and I apologize if anyone is impatient
with me for rehashing the obvious. I get the impression that this has
been floated in the past and shot down, but lately I only see comments in
favor of it.

Would anyone be willing to summarize: 1) What are the old objections that
I don't know about?
2) Would it particularly difficult to slap up a message board? (My
impression is no.)
3) Politically, what will it take to make this happen. Can we RFV it?

Peace and Love ;),
