[mb-users] Does "earliest version" include live tracks?

That's basically what I was saying in the last line of my post. If the the
studio releases a live album and one of those tracks is a new version then I
can see linking that as a first release but I think it should be put to a
vote. Somtimes those early tracks are bonus tracks hidden in the last track
of the album or they're unfinished versions that later have changed lyrics
or instrumental work (all the more reason for it to be listed as the first
version perhaps?).
However, like I said I don't see that happening nearly as much as a bootleg
release getting out before the studio's official release and that definately
shouldn't be allowed IMHO.

Another wrench to throw in the works is when an artist releases a track on a
VA compilation set before it appears on one of their offical albums as a
rare or unreleased track. I can find quite a few full albums in my
collection where 90% of the tracks were unreleased at the time of the
compilation's release then later showed up in their official albums; often
times the compilation itself is rare and so wiki's andother musical guides
don't recognise that it was the first version. Alot of the time the artist
page doesn't even refelect that the track was released on the compilation.

I guess there's quite alot of discussion that can be done on where to draw
the lines.
