[mb-users] Could not add new release

I tried adding a new release for Beethoven:

Popped in a CD, clicked submit data (Sound Juicer), and got a tab in my 
web browser with "Search for release artist" opened. Here I entered 
"Ludwig van Beethoven", for which one artist was found. Clicking the 
"Select" button returned:

"Could not load artist
Artist with ArtistID #12181 not found in the database"

The link for LvB was http://musicbrainz.org/show/artist/?artistid=1021

I then tried one of my other non-submitted discs, for Dietrich 
Buxtehude, but here everything seemed to be ok.

Retrying the Beethoven disc gave me

"Could not load artist
Artist with ArtistID #73502 not found in the database"

At this point the address bar of the web browser showed:

What's going on?
