[mb-users] Where is the IMDb of music

Completely off the topic, but why isn't anyone where the MusicBrainz
of movies is? IMDb is far to closed and technically backward to be
interresting as a community project, and caters only to the
ASCII-speaking world, making it very hard to look for my favorite
Chinese movies. Most importantly though, the data is proprietary and
is stuck on the island that is IMDb (even though it is the biggest and
most complete island for movies). Has there been any discussion on a
MusicBrainz-style movie database before?
