Following up my own post to say that there is a discussion about the Island
Records merges at http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=7479312
Of further note is the fact that Discogs (which has largely influenced the
way labels are structured on MBz) is also in the middle of altering pseudo
label branches, with the apparent same end goal as me. Many links to Discogs
labels we have on MBz no longer work, so be on the look out for changes to
them and fix them if you can.
And if you fancy reading just how complicated the situation is, go to
http://www.discogs.com/label/Island+Records+(Germany) (if it's still there)
and http://offset.skew.org/wiki/Island_Records_research
