I actually agree on the idea - although associating the discs with
releases may not be as easy as it sounds.

On the other hand, I don't think selecting a specific release would
_obviously_ be something we want. Quite contrary: if I was mentally
prepared to listen music from, say, the happy year 1994, I'd be damn
disappointed if my hifi system blasted my ears off with the sweet
melodies of Led Zeppelin
(http://musicbrainz.org/release/7214f50e-e7d6-4948-806a-024a00a1eda7.html).
Even if there was a remastered version released in 1994, the music's
still from 1969.

So yeah, there are different ways to use the information. And
particularly when it comes to tagger, the "most usable" date might be
preferable to the "most correct".
