i would say:
- use 'Alan Lomax' as the release artist (seems to be name checked as
the key element for these comps?)
- use 'Alan Lomax' as Recorded By and/or Compiler AR (as appropriate)
- make release various artists (but don't move release to 'Various
Artists' so to keep the above)
- use [unknown] where track artist isn't known, or the relevant artist
if available

that's what i'd do, anyway :)
