I disagree, to have family-members sorted together, the order needs to
be (last name, tussenvoegsel, first name), so I think the current
guideline is correct.
But let's see how other database do it....
When testing the two phonebooks:
KPN) http://www.detelefoongids.nl/tg/sk-sneek/bruin/1/
GG) http://nationaletelefoongids.goudengids.nl/search/sneek/bruin.html
KPN sorts on lastname, firstname, tussenvoegsel
GG sorts on lastname, tussenvoegsel, firstname
According to a friend who does or did a fair amount of genealogy research
in the netherlands, records in the civil registry or sorted on 'Last name,
tussenvoegsel' when you look for them in the digital indexes of an
archive.
For example, try the following civil registry search with Genlias,
http://www.genlias.nl/nl/search.jsp :
Familienaam: Bruin
Plaats: Sneek
Periode: 1941 t/m 1943
You should get three results, sorted like this:
Bruin, , Wytze
Bruin, de, Hendrikus
Bruin, de, Hein
(actually, genlias is a bit weird, it sorts on the column you selected
for sorting and the remaining order seems a bit arbitrary. It always
groups on place if you've selected multiple places. Still, the
tussenvoegsel is used for sorting the family names).
Conclusion: computer systems used in the netherlands are not
consistent ;)
