I completely agree with you, these are definitely albums, and I can't
imagine why anyone would ever see them as anything else.

This statement in ReleaseType:


The MusicBrainz project does not generally consider the following to be
compilations: 
...
a classical release containing new recordings of a classical artists work. 


Is quite unambiguous in these examples. (although I can certainly imagine
cases which would not be so clear-cut)

If the counter-arguments being expressed in those edit notes are accepted,
then we have to change an extremely high proportion of all classical albums
into compilations, including virtually every single recording of music by
composers of short works like Satie and Chopin, and almost all Renaissance
music. The overwhelming majority of all classical works are shorter than a
CD, and are inevitably going to only appear in combination with other works.
