I seem to get contradictiig information, from last.fm support, saying that
MBID tags are not read by the official software, only mentioning last.fm's
own fingerprinting--quoted message below:

Hi,
last.fm only takes the metadata from the song on your computer (song and
artist titles) and nothing else. Last.fm also has the option to fingerprint
your tracks, you can read more here:
