The state of that art is non-existent.  You're ahead of us here, I'm 
sorry to say.  :\

I am surprised that this is true, since there is a rock-solid business
model for software which does what you're describing -- when resolving 
missing tracks via commercial services, you earn affiliate revenues.  I 
think that the reason for this is that action is moving away from 
desktop media players, because it is nearly impossible for third parties 
to enter that market, but maybe Songbird will break through.
