As far as assertions and fixtures, diffs against the spec file would
be great for those changes. (and xspf fixtures would be awesome too.)

I remember that somewhere in the XSPF Subversion repo are some
fixtures used to test the validators and parsers. If someone who knows
those fixtures well could point one out that exercises most of XSPF,
without getting into fancier XML stuff (namespaces, arbitrary depth
trees, etc) it makes sense to get those facets solid before tackling
the harder stuff.

I don't know about cross-browser methods of getting the XML node. To
me it seems better to leave that out of the library, because there are
so many different ways to get an xml node, and developers have strong
preferences about it.
