I think the biggest thing holding back usage of the more advanced XSPF 
features is that so many developers code their own XSPF library, rather 
than using a standard library like libSpiff.  Unless you're using a 
third party library, it's too much labor to do a lot of it.

Similarly, software that doesn't use a library for HTTP client functions 
frequently doesn't understand redirects and all the other shared 
minutiae which make HTTP so incredibly useful.
